Ashes

My mom told me that when she dies, she would like to be cremated, then put into tiny ziplock
bags, and tucked into coat pockets at goodwill. I am allowed to keep one ziplock bag. I asked if I
should put a note inside the bag amongst the ashes,
“Yes,” she said.
“You are a good writer. Write something good.”
This is unclear and so I am drafting what to write amongst my moms ashes:

Dear new coat owner,
My mom loved jackets, but she loved strangers more. Take her with you on your adventures please.

Dear new coat owner,
This white powder is not an illicit substance but my mom. Please don't snort.

Dear new coat owner,
My mom is allergic to mushrooms. I think allergies carry over into death so don't eat mushrooms in this coat
please.

Dear new coat owner,
You can sprinkle this powder on plants and it will make them grow strong. Especially tulips.

Dear new coat owner,
This is special fabric softener powder for this coat. Use once and use lovingly.

Dear new coat owner,
Inside this bag is my mom. Enjoy, she is hilarious.

From Syd Walter: Curious about the mundane and interactions with strangers, don’t be surprised if one day I write about you.
